Zentrix develops Digital Product Passport for Textile Value Chain

The textile industry is under increasing pressure to become more circular, transparent and resource efficient. Large volumes of textile waste are still difficult to sort, assess and direct toward the most suitable recycling processes, which creates a need for reliable digital tools that can support better decisions across the value chain.
Through the STREP project Zentrix Lab is contributing to this transition by developing a Digital Product Passport for the textile value chain, supported by a secure and trusted data layer based on Distributed Ledger Technology.
STREP, short for Streamlined Textile waste streams for REcycling oPtimization, aims to support the European textile recycling industry by improving how textile waste is identified, sorted, traced and allocated to the most appropriate recycling flows. The project combines innovation in textile design, sorting, recycling and digital traceability to help make better use of materials and strengthen circularity across the sector.
Zentrix Lab leads the work on the Traceability System for Textile Waste, focusing on the development of a secure digital layer that supports data integrity, transparency and trusted information exchange.
Why traceability matters in textile circularity
Effective textile recycling depends on access to reliable information about materials, products and their lifecycle. This may include data on composition, production, use, recyclability and availability for secondary material flows.
Today, this information is often fragmented across different organisations and systems. As a result, textile waste streams can be harder to evaluate and connect with the right reuse or recycling options. A lack of trusted data also makes collaboration between companies, recyclers and other value chain actors more complex.
The Digital Product Passport developed within STREP is designed to help address this gap by making relevant product and material information easier to access, verify and exchange.
Zentrix’s contribution
Zentrix Lab leads the work on the Traceability System for Textile Waste, focusing on the development of a secure digital layer that supports data integrity, transparency and trusted information exchange.
Within the project, Zentrix is working on:
Digital Product Passport
A digital record that connects textile products and materials with relevant lifecycle information, supporting future reuse, recycling and circular use.
Trusted data layer
A secure layer based on Distributed Ledger Technology, enabling the verification of data integrity across organisations, supply chains and public-facing access points.
Material tracking
A system adapted to the needs of the textile sector, supporting the tracking of textile materials throughout their lifecycle and helping connect product information with circular opportunities.
Data exchange
Structured sharing of information between different actors in the value chain, supporting better coordination, transparency and collaboration.
Built on previous experience
Zentrix brings strong expertise in blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, with experience in applying these solutions to supply chain management, data traceability and circular economy use cases.
The company has worked on DLT-based traceability in several Horizon Europe projects and sectors, including the DIG_IT project in the mining industry and iMERMAID, which addresses challenges in water, textile and pharmaceutical domains.
This experience provides a strong foundation for Zentrix’s work in STREP, where the solution is being adapted specifically for textile waste, circular material flows and product-level information.
Supporting a more transparent textile value chain
The Digital Product Passport is expected to support better access to reliable information about textile products and materials. By connecting product-level data with trusted verification mechanisms, the solution can contribute to improved decisions on sorting, reuse, recycling and secondary material allocation.
For manufacturers, recyclers, retailers and other stakeholders, this means improved visibility across the textile lifecycle. For the wider public, it can contribute to greater transparency around sustainability, material composition and circularity.
Through STREP, Zentrix is helping create the digital foundations for a more transparent and circular textile value chain, where trusted data can support more efficient recycling and better use of textile resources.
